The board presents: Jimmy Nylund

Hello!

My name is Jimmy Nylund and I’m a sixth year mechanical engineering student. I come from Pedersöre, in the Ostrobothnian countryside. I applied to the Helsinki University of technology in 2009 as a senior high school graduate, was accepted, did my military service in between and in autumn 2010 started my studies at what at the time being was known as Aalto University School of Science and Technology. At the end of 2010 the School of Science and Technology was split into four parts, and since that I have been studying at Aalto University School of Engineering.

In the board I do all kinds of student advocacy and other stuff: academic affairs, student health care, working life affairs and trilingualism are my responsibilities. I have sometimes said, tongue-in-cheek, that I’m the advocacy sector’s “nakkikone” (Finnish word for someone who does all kinds of work nobody else wants). I have previously done volunteering and had different positions of trust in Teknologföreningen. For example, last year I was the Head of Academic Affairs in TF’s board.

In my free time I also do all kinds of stuff. I read books, go to the gym, watch movies and tv-series. I sometimes play the Baryton in the orchestra Humpsvakar, even though I’m not as active as used to be anymore. Books that I read right now, or intend to read soon, are: Väinö Linna’s Täällä pohjantähden alla, Sixten Korkman’s Talous ja Utopia, Percy Barnevik’s Jag vill förändra världen and John Steinbeck’s Vredens druvor. I am also generally interested in society and political questions and try to follow current topics in the world.

I am extremely excited to be a part of making our Aalto-society a better place together with all these fantastic persons. Come and say hello when you have the time and tell me your opinions, ideas and thoughts! I happily discuss all kinds of things.

Regards Jimmy Nylund
